Sitting back, relaxing, sipping a cup of coffee, hopping from one blog site to another.  Great way to spend a lazy afternoon.  While some would pull out their blackberries to check email, or their iPhone 3Gs to play with them a little more… ah, I’m set with my Asus EEE PC, a wifi nearby, and a Sinatra CD playing.

Admitting there are blogs I hate and blogs I love.  Such is my online life.  What I hate I still visit for that slim chance of finding a diamond of a post… in the rough.  Those I love… ah too many.

I’m in a little retrospect mood today… allow me to rest with all the WordPress news to talk about ME for a while.  I’ve been in radio broadcasting for the past 15 years.  While my degree says I should be in the IT industry, I somehow have managed to specialize in media, radio and the internet.  Now I’m not really sure which path I took that led me to do part-time blogging work, but I like it.  I’d agree with posts here at bloggingpro.com that it is HARD to make this your main job.  From this post it is near impossible to produce 2,000 posts/month… I guess.

Anyway, let me shift gear here and say that media/radio and blogging do have their similarities.  Being from both worlds now, these things just stick out.  An important similar thing I’ve learned through my media/radio years is content is king.  A well written script is not about the reporter… it’s about the subject… the news item.  Media icons like Larry King, Oprah, Anderson Cooper, Barbara Walters etc. would have that uncanny/supernatural way of making themselves invisible in an interview… it’s the subject that is highlighted… it’s them on the spotlight.  In the end, the readers/viewers know more about the subject, better informed.  A well written blog post is the same.

Whatever it is one blogs about, remember “Content is King”.  At the end of the day, your readers must say “Hey, I’ve learned something new from you today” or “Now I see that clearly now, thanks”.  It is hard work, and hey there maybe a real chance you wouldn’t hit the quota posts you need… but still, you have better served your readers when you put in more.  You’d be a sought-after blogger who made real sense.

WordPress has recently released an open source app for managing WordPress-powered blogs via the iPhone. Dubbed WordPress for iPhone, the application can manage both WordPress.com blogs and self-hosted WP blogs.

Introducing the first Open Source app that lets you write posts, upload photos, and edit your WordPress blog from your iPhone or iPod Touch. With support for both WordPress.com and self-hosted WordPress (2.5.1 or higher), users of all experience levels can get going in seconds.

I don’t have an iPhone, so I cannot check it out for myself, though. Has anyone tried this new app? I use a Nokia E51 running Symbian Series 60 version 3. While there are various standalone applications that I can use to manage my WordPress-powered blogs, I usually prefer to just open the admin panel using the built-in browser. Somehow I feel it’s faster that way. I wonder which gives the better user experience in managing blogs–the WP app, or the iPhone’s built in Safari browser.

Seguramente bastantes personas se dejaran llevar con el gancho de ganar el doble de tiempo aire ya que al hacerlo por Internet resulta tambien atractivo por la facilidad y rapidez de los movimientos, pero …  eso es precisamente el gancho que los estafadores utilizan para llamar tu atencion y que les proporciones todos tus datos personales para efectuar los fraudes con tarjetas de credito, te pediran todo, hasta el numero de verificación que tienen las tarjetas de crédito en la parte posterior, no te dejes engañar.

En esta primera imagen observen el supuesto mail de Telcel que aparenta ser legitimo al utilizar hasta los logos y la imagen ya conocida de esta empresa de telefonía celular. Observen el recuadro rojo en donde te dicen que al hacerlo por este medio te premiaran con el doble de tempo aire, observen tambien algo clasico en este tipo de fraudes, te apresuran a efectuar las transacciones. เมื่อวันศุกร์วันหยุดที่ผ่านมาได้ลาพักร้อนไปเที่ยวที่หัวหินบ้านเพื่อนสมัยเรียนปวช.ที่โรงเรียนช่างฝีมือทหารไปพักผ่อนนั่งจิบเบียร์เย็นๆครับ แล้วได้มีโอกาสไปยิงปืน BB Gun ที่สนามตรงข้ามค่ายพระรามหก-พระราชนิเวศน์มฤคหายวัน จะอยู่เส้นทางกลับมาจากหัวหินก่อนเข้าชะอำอยู่ซ้ายมือครับ ได้มีโอกาศไปลองเล่นที่สนามนั้นไม่ค่อยสนุกเท่าไหร่เพราะว่าคนน้อยแล้วก็มืดด้วยปกติเล่นที่ราบ11 จะเล่นตอนบ่ายๆพอไปเล่นตอนกลางคืนแล้วมีแต่คนนิ่งไม่ขยับกันเลย จะวิ่งบุกก็มองไม่เห็นทางค่าสนามนั้นตอนกลางวัน 100 บาทตอนกลางคืน 150 บาทครับ และได้ถ่ายรูปบรรยากาศสนามมาฝากเพื่อนๆครับ

Ah, I’m not really sure why I missed this news regarding WordPress.com theme updates for the iPhone.   While I’m not an iPhone 3G user just yet (fearing all the wierd wierd user reports, thank God I’ve held off getting an iPhone 3G!), I follow developments closely… for my friend’s sake.

Here are the updates:

1. A WordPress/iPhone friendlier log-in page, check it out at m.wordpress.com (using your iPhone, of course).  Tried opening it using my current laptop browser, and wadayaknow… i could!  Ah, simplicity is really good if you’re on 3G and have limited display area.
2. An update on the Prologue theme to be much friendlier to posting and browsing.

Look at the pretty iPhone screen below…  beauty, ain’t it.

Well, as soon as I see a much happier iPhone 3G user I’d be holding-off on getting one myself.  I feel it would be a step-up to personal productivity once Apple irons out these kinks.  Ohhhh Stevie… could you hurry up, man the product hype is no match for the frowns I’m seeing.

At least for the sake of Veronica Belmont who had an aweful experience! :)  You gotta love her!

Updating your WordPress version to 2.6 may break your podcast.

If you’re using Podpress (the popular free podcasting add-on for WordPress) PLEASE hold-off on upgrading to WordPress 2.6 (Tyner).  Read this article first, it may save your Podcast from the dreaded “off-air” state.

Today, I received a GoogleAlert saying that Tyner and Podpress isn’t fully compatible.  Once you successfully install WordPress 2.6, ALL your Podpress based podcasts will not work. 

Here’s a typical message from the PodPress Forum:

I installed Wordpress 2.6 (the full version, not the Release Candidate) today but am having problems as soon as I activate Podpress. When I try to edit an existing post from the front page or from inside the Admin Panel, I get the error message “Internet Explorer can’t open the page [address of page] Operation cancelled.” but I see it only with IE. With FF it works like a charm. I thought it was out since longer already..that’s what you get for upgrading without informing yourself in advance.

Already last time I swore that I will never install a Wordpress or Podpress update in the 1st month they are released..always have problems with upgrades.

I’ve just uploaded my latest podcast and the pod press will not display it nor attach it to the post. Everything I uploaded yesterday is there and playing but after the update it’s not working.

After spending hours digging through the code and looking at the database, I discovered that this is being caused by the new revisions in 2.6. To disable them, just add:

define (’WP_POST_REVISIONS’, 0);

to your wp-config.php and the problem disappears.

Podpress patch will be released in 10 days, according to this page (Dan Kuykendall of MightySeek.com).
